Our technology team has decades of experience working with EMR data and sensitive patient information. The first iteration of EMRsyn's seamless API is live and currently operating, connecting doctors across the country via their EMR with applications that build in efficiencies and streamline their workflow allowing for more positive patient outcomes.

EMRsyn leadership not only has strong relationships with both provincial and federal government policy-makers, but has helped to create the largest primary care health data network in Canada and has been instrumental in informing municipal and provincial policy surrounding COVID-19.
MEET EMRsyn
THE PROBLEM
Most EMR systems were designed to mimic paper file-based paradigms and are built using older programming languages and architectures. Because of this, many EMR systems used today
are not flexible or customizable, creating dissatisfaction and even burnout among clinician users.
THE SOLUTION
EMRsyn creates the technical, privacy and governance infrastructures to completely change the way we think about EMRs. Through the EMRsyn API, trusted health technology innovations can directly interact with existing EMRs and in some cases fully integrate to customize the EMR experience according to the needs of clinics and patients. Similar to introducing the App Store to the iPhone, The EMRsyn Marketplace will do the same for EMR users.
PRIVACY & ACCESS
Each health innovation must undergo privacy assessments and have the required legal agreements. It must also be judged as clinically efective and
useful, before being offered within the ecosystem. We anticipate the EMRsyn ecosystem will provide clinics and patients with EMR systems customized to
their preferences in order to improve clinical workflow and patient care. This will also put patients clearly in control of their health information and supports their engagement with their care.
The Leadership Team
Dr. Tyler Williamson
Tyler leads the EMRsyn team and is the Director of the Centre for Health Informatics and an Associate Professor of Biostatistics at University of Calgary. Tyler is nationally and internationally recognized in the use of electronic medical record data for public health surveillance, health services research, and practice quality improvement working with organizations such as the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada’s Marketed Health Products Directorate.
Dr. Stephanie Garies
With over a decade of experience working with EMR data in Alberta and Canada, Stephanie brings extensive and applied knowledge to the EMRsyn team. She is the Co-Director of the Southern Alberta Primary Care Research Network in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Calgary. Additionally, she is a CIHR-awarded postdoctoral fellow at Unity Health Toronto, working with their Family Health Team to explore the use of AI to derive social data from their patients’ EMRs.
Robb Price
Recognized as one of Calgary's Top 40-Under-40 for success in Calgary's business and social sectors, Robb leads the day-to-day operations of EMRsyn. A serial entrepreneur, Robb has had a lifetime interest in technology and health which has led to a focus in the med-tech industry for the past 5+ years.
Robb brings two decades of communications and project management expertise to the EMRsyn team to keep the project moving in the right direction.
Chris Edwards
As a seasoned advisor, Chris helps to lead the strategic direction for EMRsyn. A Professional Accountant, Electrical Engineer, and Electrician by trade, he is an expert in learning and managing highly technical work. His accounting designation is coupled with aptitude in finance, contracts and corporate controls. Chris' vast business experience and professional qualifications are complimented with an MBA from the University of Alberta.
